28th May 2011 D1 V St Marys

We beat St. Mary’s in Division 1 on Saturday in Pairc Sean by 1-8 to 1-3. Brendan Guckian and Ronan McCormack more than held their own in the vital midfield area against the Lowe brothers who starred for Leitrim against Sligo. Brendan Guckian should be called into the county panel as not only is he one of the best midfielders in the county, he is also an option upfront as he showed by scoring the only goal of the match. This was a poor match with Mary’s the better team in the first half.Joe Cox opened the scoring with a point. Ray Cox added a second before Carrick get the next three scores points from Colm O’Reilly and Pauric McWeeney and a goal in the 19th minute from Conor McWeeney.Ray Cox then pointed a free with Joe Cox completing the first half scoring to leave Mary’s leading at half time by 1-2 to 0-4.At the start of the second half Robert Lowe and Ray Cox from a free exchanged points. In the 45th minute Ray Cox pointed from a free to put the teams level. In the 47th minute Ray Cox was fouled in the square after an assist from Brendan Guckian however Sean McNabolas spot kick was well saved by Anthony Conway.A minute later Matty Cox put Annaduff into the lead with a point. In the 59th minute Alan Cox sent over a long range point to put Annaduff two points ahead and then with almost the last kick of the match Brendan Guckian got the goal giving Alan Conway no chance with a powerful shot.
